I wrote a couple days ago about some unpleasantness at Pandagon involving the blogster Amanda Marcotte's cultivated ignorance and unfortunate slandering of the defendants in the Duke lacrosse case. I was asked to write something for Liestoppers, a blog dedicated to the case, and that went up yesterday. You can go here to read it. More coverage in Washington, D.C. for those interested.
In the last day some readers also drifted here to South Of Heaven from the Feminist Law Professors blog. This blog was described as "conservative" by the professors. People who know me are rolling all over the floor. I guess they didn't do too much reading or poking around here. But in case anyone else comes over here from FLP I'd suggest that they read my Liestoppers piece. My beef with Marcotte isn't her politics unless her politics require that she presume guilt based on race, gender and class, and then close herself to evidence.
What I would love to see as an outcome would be for Ms. Marcotte to actually examine information about the case before she comments on it again. Maybe the folks at FLP can steer her to the North Carolina Bar's amended complaint against the DA who used this false prosecution to get himself reelected. And then after she becomes informed on the subject I would hope that she comments honestly and intelligently on the case. Leave the insults and innuendo aside and look at the evidence and then speak on the case.
Maybe that's "conservative." I don't think it's unreasonable, not for someone who is going to be the face of a Presidential candidate on the internet.
