Two years old!

August 30th. 

She's such a sweetheart.

I know they are blurry

I'm still learning all the controls. 

The first three pictures are Izzy standing on her safe place. We people are moving around and she gets a little nervous she goes to her spot. From there she can run up the stairs where she can feel even safer, or if I put on my shoes and move to the front door she comes running up to have me put her harness on. The next two pictures are Iz sniffing around. It's a great neighborhood to sniff. My favorite sniff is the fig tree, but Izzy likes the stuff nearer ground level. And the squirrels have been moving around quite a bit lately and that just sets her off. The last two pictures, they seem to be double visionary, is Izzy taking a nap on my bed. She's got her front legs up just in case someone walks by and gives her a belly rub.

It was another uneventful day on the Avenue. Iz and I took a couple of walks. After struggling with the camera in my phone I got a cheap little camera, no phone, on Amazon. I'm still figuring out how to use it. I tried to take a picture of her, but she spotted a squirrel and hightailed after him, and my picture moment was gone. That would have been my picture for tonight. 

The temperature hit ninety today, but it's supposed to cool back down. Still, one day here and there isn't so bad. 

Joan made a Greek salad: cucumbers, red onions, green peppers, tomatoes, feta cheese, those shriveled black olives. Very good dinner, and healthy. We split a steak last night off the barbeque. Maybe not as healthy, but it tasted great. 

I've got to put some time into the instruction manual that came with the camera, but that's for tomorrow. Right now, after cleaning up the kitchen I expect to have a nice long sleep.

Iz at rest

The most neurotic but lovable dog ever.  

Today it actually rained, about what you'd get when you have to use your wipers at the lowest speed for maybe five minutes. It may have gotten up past seventy today, maybe not. The clouds kept things cool. Once again Iz and I took a walk of about a mile. When we got to the gas station the gas station lady was nowhere to be seen. Izzy was pulling us to the pump. I said, "Iz, if you get it every day it's not a treat" as if that would mean anything to a dog. We had crossed the street and were going past the funeral home when I hear a faraway "Izzeee!" Sure enough it was the gas station lady, so the Iz and I backtracked, where she got her dog biscuit and a big scratch behind the ears. 

In any case, that's how I saw it.

 

Saturday

I started off the day taking Izzy on a long walk, about a mile back and forth. Of course, the lady at the gas station saw Iz and got a couple of biscuits for her. Then the lawn man came. He was cutting down some limbs for Barb down the street, and then did our yard. Around this time we took Iz to the dog park, which was pretty crowded today. Mostly the other dogs were just sort of standing around sniffing each others' butts. Iz did her share of butt-sniffing but wanted to get someone to chase her, or someone for her to chase. She did get some running in. We ate leftovers for dinner. That was pretty much it.

I have an old digital camera. You could run a cord from it to your computer and download photos. Real easy. I now have a phone that, with difficulty, will take a picture. But tonight Joan and I have been struggling trying to figure out how to download the pictures from the camera to the computer. I was trying to take a picture of Izzy's face but only managed to take a picture of the top of her head. This picture actually showed up on my computer (but not the other two) at some point and we don't know how it happened. I really hate all this technology, especially when they make things harder instead of simpler. 

Plus I had a tooth cleaning this afternoon. They only clean a quarter of your mouth at one sitting, but I begged them to at least do two at one seating. They did the upper left and lower left. I go back for my last quadrant cleaning next week. Then I can find out where in the queue I am for a new knee. 

I've got a headache, either from the dental work, my sinuses, but probably from my phone. Grrrrrrh.

It was nice and cool this morning. The haze was gone by mid-afternoon. 

That was the big news around here today. I think we topped out at 73, which was wonderful. 

Okay, not very much news, but if you check your email there may be some more things to look at.

I'm taking a break, waiting for the heat to break.

Still hot

And the air quality is terrible. Someone on the news tonight said that we had the second worst air quality in the world today. I wonder who had the worst air quality today. 

And it's really wearing us down. Sometimes I don't feel my age, but this heat wave is a real drag. My eyes are burning, I always have this sinus headache. Izzy doesn't seem to be all that bothered by it. 

We've been spending most of our time in the house because of the air. One more day and then it should be dropping to the low seventies, with clean air blowing off the ocean. One more day.
